Jira
The deeply configurable engineering tracker enterprises standardize on
At a glance
Large engineering orgs needing granular workflow control
Our take
Jira remains the default for enterprise software teams because of its depth: custom workflows, granular permissions, and an integration ecosystem (Confluence, Bitbucket, hundreds of Atlassian Marketplace apps) that few competitors match. We won’t pretend it’s fun to use — configuration can eat days, and the interface still feels like it was designed for administrators rather than the people doing the work. It’s the right call for large, process-heavy engineering organizations; it’s the wrong call for small teams who’ll spend more time configuring workflows than shipping.
